so funny i fell off my chair.

Watch Irene Ang's rendition of personifying Singapore, from a production by Mr Miyagi.

I love the way she uses Singlish, Cantonese and Hokkien so bloody interchangebly and fluently.. it reminded me soooo much of when my mum used to cane me for doing badly in school/being rude/not eating dinner/being a bad boy in general.

This made me laugh real hard too.

Living in Singapore for 21 years, discounting the brief moments in Cyprus, I never thought or felt that my country was oppressive! I always thought oppression was something like Somali, or North Korea, or Former Yugloslavia, or the former western European Soviet states.. I knew about them growing up.. I read about their stories, and their oppression.. When these people talk about oppression of the Singapore peoples.. it made me chuckle.. "Ooooh.. I don't get House on television here! I'm sooooooo oppressed!!!!" or maybe "Garrrr!!!! I can't buy an iPhone here!! WE have no human rights!!"

Even after coming to England to study and live, I don't think that Singapore is oppressed at all.... even though Mike thinks so because I didn't get to watch Monty Python growing up. I had doraemon though, and Sesame Street.. and that was good enough!

On the contrary I feel more oppressed in England because I am physically obstructed to do the things I want to because I don't have the money to buy a car and pay for insurance. I cannot go to places to hike as and when I wish, or to get to national parks because there is no suitable public transportation.

Hell, I walk 30 minutes to work because the bus is too expensive. I feel oppressed when I am refered to as the minority, I feel oppressed everytime someone asks me if i speak English. I feel oppressed reading the local newspaper about all the crimes, and vandalisms that take place in a city no larger then Pasir Ris, Tampines and Bedok combined. Every page is filled with some sort of violent crime, or severe vandalism. I feel oppressed when the city council decides that they will only clear trash once fortnightly. I feel oppressed when rail workers, or airport workers go on strike, and I am left stranded in the middle of no where. I feel sympathetically and indirectly oppressed when I read about all the unfortunate deadly cycles of poverty, ignorance, and abject wretchedness some people are born into in this 'welfare' country.

Oppression? Ms Chee Siok Chin, please stop immortalising your brother, and grow up.

If Singapore's reporters are oppressed, let them speak for themselves. If Singaporeans are oppressed let us do the judging. I don't want a pansy group of losers who claim to be patriots, destroy the peace of our streets by launching pathetic protests which only serve to undermine the peace and image of our country.

PAP may have its petty faults, show the Singapore public that your stupid party can withstand the integrity test, and play the politics game better then them. Obviously, SDP can't even lie properly to save their own lives, so much for even playing politics.

If you don't like Lee Kuan Yew, and have some personal agenda against the Lee family, take it elsewhere, but don't air it on the electionary stages. It looks immature and profoundly unprofessional.

Afternote: England's a great country.. but living here does have its setbacks. I take it very much in my stride, and as much as I enjoy living here, I know, that there is no where that would be like Singapore, my home.

What happens?

What happens when your digital camera and iPod passes the 3 year stage?

You will desire to buy new ones. And better ones at that.

Therefore making you, very very very poor.

Like its Pasir Ris to you.

I just realised that the distance between Tavistock and Plymouth, is like Pasir Ris to home in Singapore. Yet, its so much more difficult to get to, and extremely inconvenient unless you've got a car!

I've got a password to read Straits Times Online, the Singapore (national propaganda) paper.. and reading the comments left by other readers, I have only 1 lingering question; why stay in Singapore when they are so unhappy?

I just feel a major disgust for people who only know how to the diss the country (Sillypore) they live in (unless its like Somali or something.. even then, I bet there are some Somalians who are loyal to Somali). They're narrow-minded, unintelligent, irrational, sad freaks. The only thing really bad I can find about Sillypore is... Hawker food makes you fat. (and theres no HnM). (or House on teevee).

Just got back from North Devon (Bideford. like you know where) from a walk on the coast path up there. Hartland point was by any measure amazing. At anytime better then Triangle point, or slapton ley in South Devon.

I always wanted to see Slatpton Ley after watching Coasts on BBC.. and it was only 30 mins after arriving at SL.. I went. OH! This IS Slapton Ley.. oops. It wasn't that great.

Bought myself a National Trust membership, which means I can go and visit old country houses for free! Yay! Lyme Park!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And visiting Buckland Abbey.. home of Sir Francis Drake, and it was absolutely fascinating.

Thats what I like about the Brits.. They protect their culture and heritage to a T, and they really make use of what natural beauty that God has endowed them with, Caves, Coasts, Tors, Countrysides, and Country Estates.. All very beautiful things well appreciated and visited by the everyday Brit. I don't think Sillyporeans give a damn about Thiam Hock Gong, or Sri Mariamman, or even Istana. Then again.. we've only got a miserable 188 years of recorded history. : P

shit I hate flies. Summer in Britain has more flying insects and irritatingly stupendous pests that fly into your face then Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan put together. I wonder where they all disappear to during winter.

Absolutely looking forward to Copenhagen and Stockholm.... and strangely enough.. dreading the post holiday effect of poverty!!!! Worse.. i'll be flying off to France the very next day I arrive back from stockholm. Insane!

I'm not sure if i'm going to enjoy the field trip to France at all. Its all the priorities, and also... understanding that my mind and body has a limit, and I can't possibly be an excellant geologist in the field without a spanking good fitness and a mental agility befitting a PSC scholar. Scoring only a miserably 60 for my previous field trip.. that was a big ego bruise!!! big big one.

I figured that my priority for this field trip should be, not to learn so much as compared to practicing the skills picked up last school year.. with the surveying and rock-looking/munching/tasting and stuff. Ought to not let anything else get in the way of excelling in what I love and do. Must focus.

Haven't had pictures in a long time.. thats because i'm arguing with myself whether to bring my trusty camera down a cave or not.. and apparently, that decision making process denigrates my camera into a non-usable mantle piece. I have been arguing with myself over whether to buy a digital SLR camera also.. but that would set me back at least 300 quid! : ( oh well.

Only wanted to type a little before going to sleep.. ended up giving a discourse on my mental instability. oops.
