Some observations of the day.

1) I can never make my mind up. That is why I bring 3 pieces of clothing to the fitting room, and end up not buying a single one.

2) Sweets and Sugared Iced Tea makes me very very hyperactive.

3) Beef jerky tastes nothing quite like Bakwa. : (

4) Its cheaper by half to fly to Dehli then take a train/bus to Kathmandu, instead of flying straight into Kathmandu. (uh oh!)

5) They are selling a Gyroscope at Mount Gould's surplus store, and I am very tempted to buy one because I am fascinated, and I could use a Gyroscope instead of a lousy compass.

6) I am getting a GPS handset, and I am quite excited to show off my testimony to my poor sense of direction.

My heart breaks.

Last night, I dreamt about eating Ba kwa (Hokkien), or Rou Gan (Chinese), or Yok Gon (Cantonese). Its like the Singapore version of Pork Jerky.. and its absolutely delicious.

I used to say very often; 肉干能治百病。which roughly translates to; Pork jerky can cure all illnesses.

So steadfast was I to the perfect ideology that Bakwa, due to its nature as a comfort food can cure all illnesses, I attempted to force feed Clement a piece of it several years back.. when he was very very ill. I think he thinks that the biggest mistake that day was opening the door to let me in.

When I was young, this was my comfort food. Not cadbury chocolates, not some fancy dolly mix or candy, but this, the simple, and humble Bakwa. All through my college life, I would buy myself a piece of this heavenly creation to munch on while studying, or even going out.

Last night, I dreamt of its rich succulent taste. And I can't stop thinking about it. How I wish we have Bee Chiang Heng in the UK.

Sneaky.

I heard Hokkien today. Yes Hokkien.. The proper kind, not the bamboozling ramshackle kind you hear among Singaporean youths these days.. Hokkien as in.. the ancient language spoken by our grandparents (and above), fluent and beautiful, smooth and calming, like singing a song.

The last time I ever heard such Hokkien was before my Grandma died about 4 years ago.. I obviously can't speak Hokkien to such a precision and fluent grace, and I'm not exactly glad that I can't. Maybe I should'tve paid more attention to my Hokkien when I was younger..

But anyway.. Yes.. I heard this almost extinct version of Hokkien flowing out of this elderly lady's mouth while she was having coffee in Plymouth.

The thing about Plymouth is that, it is rare to see a Chinese person.. much less a Chinese person who speaks such Hokkien! I couldn't help but eavesdrop on her talking about the Angmoh Tng (White man's soup) and describing it to her daughter/daughter-in-law. It was amusing.

Yau xiu de mia ah!

Another interesting sighting today was an appaling fat toddler strapped into his stroller, and being constantly fed. He was fed in total; 2 cookies, and a whole damn macdonalds meal. He was soooo fat.. i don't think he can walk.. and the mother looks like a scal. So i guess its the vicious cycle again, of poverty, ignorance, and abject wretchedness that some people in this blessed country is born into.

The poor kid is porbably going to suffer from lack of self confidence, anti-social behaviour, bullying, and worse of all, health issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, swollen ankles, reduced bone growth, and clogged arteries. By the looks of it, all before he turns 18.
And who's fault is it? The bloody parents. Isn't it some kind of child abuse to over-feed your child!!?? goodness!

I can't blame the poor kid (by the looks of it, about 3 and still in a bloody stroller) for his predicament.. but how about the obese adults... I'm not talking about obese as in overweight.. but severely overweight, where their body weight is almost 200% over the optimum.

This is a rather predominant problem here in the UK. And I am wondering what in the world is going through the minds of these people who blatantly fall into this whole trap of getting fatter and fatter! I don't understand how people can actually argue that being obese is a disability when it is sometimes clearly a result of one of the deadly sins: Gluttony.

People who grow up obese, I don't have any issues pointing the figure at complacent, or over indulging parents. But as an adult, being able to choose and make decisions yourself, choosing to sit yourself in a stroller and claim welfare benefits doesn't exactly put you in a very positive light doesn't it?

I think obese people who want to make disability claims should put forward evidence that they are doing their best to reduce their weight problems, and have substantial proof that their obesity is caused by either poor habits from childhood, or genetic. Severely overweight parents stuffing their fat kids with food should be arrested and put in boot camp. Both parents and child. fast food joints with the exception of Subway should be banned from counties with obesity exceeding 30%, and it should be made a national policy to lower taxes and provide subsidies for oils with lower saturated fats. Like sunseed oils.

Healthy citizens make up a healthy nation.
